Hi

Got a school that uses RM as their ISP but their reporting software they have is poor long winded to setup

So we thinking potentially looking at EXA Quantum/+ product

Does anyone know if they can both run along side each other?

Its all windows workstation at the school and they have proxies in place i.e. proxy1.rmsafetynet.com etc etc. however we looking for a solution that will allow us to monitor what websites pupils have visited and get notification if they have accesed something banned, i know with EXA you can push out a .pac file for this

Or does anyone else have any other easy to setup monitoring software?

Moving ISP is not an option at the moment..so would consider any 3rd party applications that easy to setup for reporting

We have a great offer on Smoothwall Monitor ;) if you'd like a quote just DM me.

Seriously though, if it is monitoring specific you are looking at rather than filtering, then SurfProtect Quantum + is not a monitoring platform, it is more like Netsweeper or Lightspeeds filtering.

If your site is using the RM Filtering, you should have the User Based filtering available to you so it logs users activity instead of just the workstation IP address (and from the proxy you provided it's not setup currently to go via the user based)

While you won't get automated e-mails for every block, you can get it to notify you if it hits specific filter policies you have setup

(Disclaimer: I am Exa Networks Operations and Technical Director, oversee the development of SurfProtect, and was pointed to this post)

To answer your question regarding keeping RM while looking at SurfProtect, running filtering services back-to-back can be tricky, and finding problems in such a setup can be complicated. Therefore, I strongly advise against it.

Regarding SurfProtect Quantum+, you are correct that we can set up the proxy via PAC, but we have many ways to integrate with schools, including VPN.

On Windows, we can integrate with AD, which does not require the user to authenticate (as it is done automatically via challenge). We also have a Windows application that can auto-log customers on our captive portal, and then we can use AD, Enta-ID or Google SSO.

We recently improved our analytic features and notification, so I would rather let someone from our technical support team discuss features with you; they deal with the product daily and will answer your questions better than I can. Feel free to contact them. We are happy to answer questions without involving anyone from our sales team.

We are also launching an offer allowing customers to run the proxy on a local device while making a decision and keeping all logs on our cloud service.

I would be happy to provide you with a 3 months free trial of SurfProtect if you wish to test it at no risk. I will let our team know of this offer.
