Anyone recommend something to replace our Synology DS418? Wanting something that we can use to backup various o365 sharepoint sites/teams with + local VM's. Cant do o365 with the current box we have, think they dropped support 2 years ago.

Was thinking about getting a DS423+ , or DS620slim for the 2 extra drive slots for future proofing.

I would not get anything that is not a Synology plus personally.

I think the slim version also uses 2.5" disks which may limit you especially if using for backups where storage capacity will be more priority than speed.

Can't speak for the DS423+ but we've been running the DS923+ for awhile now as our cloud backup of Microsoft 365 and it's been great. Easy to configure, UI is good and overall well built machine. Can't complain.

We run it with 4 disks in RAID

I think the 423+ will be a good option for us then. We don't need a 10GbE port & if we go for x4 10TB drives that will give us plenty of storage with RAID5.

Sticking with synology sounds like a plan

I have been running a DS423+ for the past year and half and it's been solid. It backs up our central Google Workspace tenant with multiple domains and nearly 1000 users.
