ASUS Chromebooks - Opinions?

Hi all,

 

We're currently looking into a new batch of Chromebooks. We've had a lot of Lenovo in the past, but had a pretty bad failure rate. We've Dells, HPs, Acers knocking around which are all OK.

 

We've been offered a batch of ASUS CZ11 devices at a good price - does anyone have any experience, good or bad, they'd share with ASUS Chromebooks?

 

Processor is the MediaTek Kompanio 520, which while being a cheap brand benchmarks OK. All other spec is fine. They look..... like Chromebooks.

 

Anyone know what the situation is like with parts, in case of out of warranty damage?

We've had a load of ASUS Chromebooks. Can't say I was all that happy with them.

 

We have 163 of the C202X. They are coming up to 4 years old and we're seeing the emmc storage failing on a lot of them (so far, a class set worth.) Another issue we've had is where the ribbon cable for the touchpad works itself loose and it requires taking the Chromebook apart to reseat the cable. We also have a few of these as well where they will only turn on if you do a Hard Reset first.

 

We also have 15 of the ASUS C223NA model as well, which is a slightly newer model and we've got 3 of these now which will charge but not power on.

 

Based on past experience, Acer were reliable but the cases were prone to breakage, Dell & HP were the most reliable. We've also got 2 class sets of Lenovo Chromebooks to replace some of the C202X's which so far, so good!

We have to order Lenovos due to funding rules in wales - but if I could buy on my own I would be ordering Dells as they were the most solid and long lasting of all, and also I would be trying 1 year group out on HPs to see how well they last. Most of my hundreds of lenovos have been OK but I know other schools have had serious issues semmingly with batches of them.

 

Avoid Acer like the plague.

I think some acer models are coming with 3 year extended warranty so maybe they've improved / worth a look ?

Given the 90% faliure rate in 3 years on our fleet of acers I would standy by my "avoid like the plague" statement no matter what warranty they offer now.

We've had Acer, Lenovo, Dell, Samsung, HP and Asus. The only major fail rate was some of the Lenovos were "hidden" and not used for many, many, months and the wouldn't start up again.
