Bromcom Schools - Recording Lates

Hi,

 

can any BROMCOM schools share how they do/would record lates in the scenario below:

 

SLT/Staff member stand at gate and currently get late pupil to speak into MP3 recorder stating name, time and reason. Recorder goes to attendance who listens and enters into BROMCOM

 

Got to be a better way?

Late student buzzes gate, reception lets them in and they walk into reception, say "I'm Bob Bobblington in Y9 and I missed my bus/whatever" and receptionist marks them late and they head to their lesson.

 

NB: We have no more than ~10 walk-in lates a day.

 

edit: The gate phones also take a snapshot of the person/student buzzing in that's good for at least 24hrs* in case the child attempts to evade reception.

 

*24hrs at a school with a sixth form who go into town for lunch. Several days for a primary school in the middle of nowhere.

We use Inventry for our signing in and out system, mostly for staff, visitors and external pupils. Once the registration bell is rang, the external gates are locked and late pupils must then come through reception to enter the building. Our reception has two sets of doors; external doors and internal doors to the school, to separate the public from the main school. The doors into the main school are not opened for pupils until they have signed in via the Inventry touchscreen, including providing a reason. Anyone attempting to sneak through the doors when they're opened without signing in are caught on CCTV and disciplined appropriately. I don't think this is written back to Bromcom, though it is stored within Inventry and I believe attendance/late marks are provided by the form/class teacher when they get to their room.

While not a Bromcom school, the challenges are universal.

 

Inventry used to have a windows application that way perfect for this. Super fast for the teacher at the gate and went straight into the MIS. For some reason they replaced with an app that takes multiple taps and some typing to find students.

 

They could of course tap in, but by the time we re-jigged things (physically) to make that possible we were using a third party system for attendance, at which point you have a race condition between inventry, and the teacher in the classroom on a system that wouldn’t see the data from inventry for at least 15 minutes.

 

Furthermore there (was) the issue of cascading P1 mark back into AM reg if AM reg mark was absent (but I don’t think we do that anymore)

 

These days the SLT member notes the name/tutor group on paper and passes that to reception, if the student arrives early enough. A bit later (but starting before P1) the gates are further secured and students have to register at reception and give an explanation. This data is entered into the third-party system which also handles sanctions and rewards. The attendance office reviews lates etc shortly after the start of P1 and begins the process of contacting parents for absences or persistent lates.

 

This is definitely a set of processes we would be expecting any replacement MIS to streamline.

We use signinapp - student comes into reception and signs in on the same kiosk ipads we use for visitors etc.

It's written back to Bromcom, with minutes late, a comment and reason selected (medcal/traffic/etc).

After a certain time it signs them in but switches to a U code. No human intervention required. Same in reverse if they leave early.

Oh we have that too - but I'm at a SEND school, if we didn't have a gate the students would escape, probably without signing out! 😂

We use inventry with write back, late students come through reception and have to sign in.
