ITGURU Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Just decided to trial the new outlook and so far the only benefit i can see is that it doesnt hang/lag as much as the old outlook. Noticed non of the conditional formatting rules migrate over so gone to re-make. However, what an unfinished product - even the microsoft article says not all old classic outlook rules are available so at the moment all you get it if you are in the to line or not. So when i highlight anything in red to be to IT Support this isn't possible at the moment. Junkware!
jmak Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 We're pointing people towards the web client now. It isn't as fully featured as "Classic Outlook" but it's the only version that seems to consistently work as advertised.
ITGURU Posted October 27, 2024 Author Posted October 27, 2024 We're pointing people towards the web client now. It isn't as fully featured as "Classic Outlook" but it's the only version that seems to consistently work as advertised. I have multiple mailboxes which manage separately, so full outlook is required as web doesn't allowing adding multiple (different domain) email accounts. Roll back it is for now!
jmak Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 The client should be the solution. You could set up multiple profiles in the browser (or use different browsers) for each account. Multiple domains is unusual for us; multiple mailboxes is the common one. The workaround we recommend is to open each mailbox in a new tab and then group the tabs together. The only reason I'm mentioning it is because we're finding more and more problems with all versions of the client, so we're often looking for workarounds.
CHiLL Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) We're finding that classic Outlook is being purged from installs or updates to M365 Apps and outlook.exe is not located in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16" or anywhere on the system, despite not being marked as an exclusion in the office configuration deployment file. Instead users see Outlook (New), which I think is just a web app. It is possible to manually download and install classic Outlook, though I'm looking at the possibility of making it available via Software Center or Company Portal. Annoyingly, despite it being listed as a store app, I cannot find it in Intune and can't push it that way. I can't seem to find any switches for the downloadable executable either and it installs in full display mode, which isn't ideal. You may also need to set the following int he registry: Key: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences Value name: UseNewOutlook Data type: REG_DWORD Value: 0 I'm not a really a user of the advanced features in Outlook, I just generally send/receive and have some rules set up. In regards to the rules in the new version, I have noticed that when rule is manually run, it takes an absolute age. Presumably because it's being processed server side rather than client side, but I'm looking at over 24 hours and it's still not completed. Edited November 15, 2024 by CHiLL
Olliedawg Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 They're supposed to be supporting classic outlook until 2029 i believe. Hopefully by then the shiny "new" outlook will have more features..
2ilent8cho Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 On Outlook for Mac I always revert to legacy Outlook, I cannot stand the new version, it just looks awful. Wasted space, bad layout, I cannot understand who is designing this stuff and think it's an improvement. But then again I think Microsoft and user interface design has been getting worse and worse for many years.
Sylv3r Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 I actually don't mind the new Outlook. Haven't really had any problems with it, or the features that it doesn't include currently doesn't impact on my ways of working currently.
