Gsuite to Outlook - Help

Hello,

 

Hope this makes sense and isn't a stupid question.

 

Our school is in the process of migrating from Gsuite to Outlook.

 

We've successfully migrated mailboxes and setup redirections for any new emails to be forwarded to their new outlook address.

 

However, our staff have signed up to various 3rd party websites with their Gsuite emails. Is there a way to have it so people won't need to sign up to all these services again with their new outlook emails? Stuff like Schoolgrid, PBS, Twinkl and various others.

If they're just needing to be able to receive mail at the old addresses (for password recovery, notifications etc on those third-party sites), then it sounds like you have that covered. Keeping the old addresses as aliases on the new mailboxes will keep that going in perpetuity, assuming that mail for those old addresses is being routed to your Outlook service.

 

If it's "Sign in with Google" single-sign on that they're using, then that assumes continued use of the Google accounts themselves, so you'll have to work out how to migrate people away from that. That's likely to need a specific approach for each affected third-party service.

You're not keeping the same email addresses? Why?

Yeh I would keep the email address/domain if you can it will save you (and your staff) a bunch of hassle (ask me how I know)

Changing email addresses to make them shorter. Gsuite emails are [email protected], outlook domain is [email protected]. We would be removing a total of at least 17 characters in the email address, plus any characters from firstname.surname to username(surname+first initial).

Add the old addresses as an alias so they carry on working.

Switching BOTH provider AND email addresses is quite high risk. I would do one, then the other as separate tasks TBH.,

Right, so your old domain is free forever, so just keep your gsuite running, as it's free, then add new domain to the Gsuite, and add aliases to the new names to each account, then users can use either address to Log In With Google

I think Sign-in with Google only works with an account's primary address, not with any of its aliases.

You can use m365 SSO with Google, so as long as the alias can link I think you would be sorted their. They would sign in with with their M365 credentials and Google would let them in.

Not surprising, just disappointing, loads of legacy, Office 365 is made to work with Onedrive, the lock in is worse than 10 years ago, and what school doesn't have a million Office documents already? Plus who's selling content for GSuite users?

Pretty much everything MS works fine in google nowadays it's just easier for everyone involved.

 

My staff have gravitated more and more to using google for everything wthout being forced or instructed - if they find it easier they will use it, and nothing microsoft does is easy just look at the abortion that is teams.

What content are you expecting? So much is now browser based, I feel the Chrome solution "just works".

Fair enough, we've found most (90%+) of Word docs open fine though.

Worksheets are generally still designed to be printed, with large blank table cells, then the formatting breaks when people start typing in them, they're not designed for filling in on a computer using MS software either to be fair
