iMovie alternatives?

Hi all,

 

I am looking for the best software to replace iMovie... for years my school used an old MacBook whenever they needed to make a video and edit/add layers etc. I am trying to search for an alternative rather then spending £££ on a new MacBook. The old one updated, and iMovie is no longer available on it (yes it's that old!)

 

Does anyone have any suggestions? Canva maybe?

Really like DaVinci Resolve. Not too prickly to learn and tutorials abound.
