mdrabble Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 For those people who have already moved to Windows 11, did you find your existing Windows 10 GPOs worked fine, or did they need some changes making? Would you mind sharing your Win 11 GPO for computers and Student users Thanks in advance and for possibly saving what little sanity I have left Cheers Mark
jthompson Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 (edited) Can't think of any that didn't just work as expected. I will have added some options to turn off taskbar gadgets, since that's a Win 11 feature specifically. I created WMI filters to target Win 10 and Win 11, so that any GPOs that need to be specific only to one OS or a other could make use of those. WUfB GPOs are the only ones where we do that though, since we specify different target versions to upgrade to. Edit: Our Win 10 Start menu GPO uses the WMI filter, so that it doesn't apply to Win 11 systems. I've not bothered with any Start menu customisation in Win 11 so far. jthompson Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 These are some Win 11 specific UI options that we are applying. There's no issue with having these applying in Win 10, though. Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar "Remove Recommended section from Start Menu" is Enabled Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Widgets "Allow widgets" is Disabled User Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Copliot "Turn off Windows Copilot" is Enabled 1
FragglePete Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 They did sort of work, but I took it as an opportunity to take a fresh look and setup completely new GPOs for both Users and Computers - obviously picking out the security tweaks from the old ones, determine if they were still relevant and implement if still needed. I pushed everybody to OneDrive storage for personal files also so tweaks were made to implement that. Spent a good six months on and off creating and testing ready for roll out over Summer. Pete
Passat1983ICTech Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 i would watch out for deploying printers as this happened a few time with us
sraper Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Obvious that mess up are StartMenu Layout and that area. but apart from that. Pretty much everything that works for 10 will work in 11
