Hello,

We are a large secondary school in North London. We would like to build capacity in our data management team and would appreciate any contacts/advice/pointers regarding the recruitment of a virtual data manager.

Anyone had any experience in this area?

Kind regards,

Mark

Are you able to expand a little on what sort of role you see this being? Is this something for a full-time member of staff, or are you wanting someone part-time / on-demand? It sounds like you have existing staff doing some kind of data management, are you needing to expand on their current skillset by hiring in someone with specific expertise? Is there a particular set of tools / environment you are working with, or would setting that up be part of the new Data Manager's role?

I would potentially be interested in a remote school data manager role. In terms of advertising, I'd go down the normal channels of TES/job, eteach and of course here on Edugeek. Also, LinkedIn is a good option too. Some of those sites allow job searches to filter on remote roles, so you will have some like me specifically looking for such positions.

You'd be quite leading edge in doing so, as I don't ever think I have seen one advertised before. I agree with @PotNoodleTech, the role does suit mostly remote working if the school culture engages with remote meetings. Another advantage of offering remote, is you are recruiting from a much large cohort than restricting yourselves to local commuters. Good luck with the search.

there are quite a few companies offering this as a service now so well worth looking at those too as you would then have a little more resilience as well as they commonly have a pool of remote DMs. a remote DM widens your talent pool but doesnt remove that single point of failure.

Could you let me have the names of those companies - it could be of interest to me.

Schools ICT as above are the one that comes to mind immediately but have seen others. They are part of quite large group of ICT/MIS support companies now and the feedback I get is generally very positive.
