Install Windows Only on Mac A1312

Was in process of erasing disk from previous user, which seems to have gone wrong and now can't reload or download iOS from apple - nor will the Mac load its original OS on startup

 

So what I am asking is, is it possible to load WINDOWS 11 (or 10) on here somehow and how to go about it !

Simple answer is no you need boot camp. Do you have access to another Mac?

Sadly I don't have another Mac !

 

If it was a windows machine, you would download a version of Windows that you wanted and install from a USB stick

 

Is this not possible on a Mac ?

Same for Mac but you need a mac to do it on. Sorry.

The USB installer is created from a Terminal command (and needs that second Mac to be able to download the correct version of MacOS so needs to be compatible with it).

I can get into Terminal from the Cmd+R page on startup

 

Can it be downloaded from there ?

I don’t think so, because you can only get the install as an app from the App Store which won’t work pre-boot.

 

You’ll have to put feelers out to see if anyone you know has a Mac! We’re lucky as we never had just one, but again - they need to be similar ages as an old Core 2 one probably won’t be able to grab the version you want.

Have been trying to install MacOS from the Macs recovery software but it keeps saying "Server cannot be reached" ??

 

Any ideas to talk me through it !?

It may not have the recovery partition in place, to install it from. Depends what was done to the boot disk.

I notice that is High Sierra, there is an issue with internet recovery and that specific version of macOS. This video should hopefully give the information you need to fix

This is a very old machine, not sure what you intend to do with it but I would be shocked if it can run Windows 11. It will be vulnerable due to long being out of support, and since OpenCore would be against the EULA its not something I could recommend here.

 

To fix this you are going to need a bootable High Siera USB, which you will need another Mac to create.

You could also use Shift-Option-Command-R instead of Command-R on startup and it should allow you to install the macOS the machine shipped with instead of High Sierra. Which may at least get macOS back on the device which you can then upgrade or use bootcamp.

It says "Server not found"
