Hmm sorry for being dubious but ...

 

Now here's the kicker - there is absolutely nothing environmentally friendly about creating a PC that uses what looks to be a proprietary case, proprietary power supply, proprietary motherboard i.e 90% of the PC. Proprietary parts are the least eco friendly parts available as once the three year warranty is up and the manufacturer decides to stop making parts and move on, you are unable to maintain that PC buy upcycling old parts off ebay or facebook marketplace for example to keep the thing running in year 5 - 10. So......it becomes instant E-Waste actually far less environmentally friendly than a traditional MITX/MATX PC and case?

This is exactly why we would never consider purchasing this sort of device.

Personally we dont tend to break up our PCs we just put them in out WEEE bin so this is great for the likes of EnviroElectronics who collect our WEEE but we much prefer the VeryPC Flex desktop computers as they have a lockable and/or screwable rear cable cover so the 'little rascals' can't unplug the keyboard, mouse, power cable or screen lead or anything else plugged in to the desckop! :cool:

Great feedback and points we have considered in the development of the product.

 

Broadleaf PCs approach to sustainability is both on a product and service level.

Material Use

o Recycled packaging

o Plastics are 30% PCR (recycled plastic content)

Reducing the materials in the manufacture of the PC

o 55% smaller in size PCB than MATX motherboard

o 1400 components on PCB vs ~ 1800 components on MATX

o 3 Internal Cables (WIFI aerial , PSU to motherboard , CPU cooler)

 

Improved modularity & security

o Easier to assemble, maintain and disassemble at EOL

o Standard screws are thumb screw , can be supplied with Phillips or Torx button security screws.

o Secure Robust Front panel that requires removal of the side panel to remove.

Performance & energy efficiency

o Uses upto 35% less power than a PC based on using Core i5 12400 / MATX motherboard/ 80+ Bronze TFX PSU

 92% efficient PSU

 45W TDP Mobile CPU that performs on par with 65W CPU

 

 

Lifecyle options

o Free disposal & Trade in options for existing equipment against a purchase . IE make money from your WEEE rater than giving it away .

o 3 or 5 year base warranty options

o 1/3/5 year warranty extension options

o UK stocked spare parts for self repair

o Upcycling (Upgrade your old PC to the latest generation with a new warranty, we collect your old PC reuse existing case and compatible components to save on the cost of a new one)

 

The motherboard and PSU are proprietary to this form factor in the Broadleaf Range, our roadmap for this product is to continue the same formfactor so that as with other products from VeryPC we can offer an upcycling service.

 

I agree proprietary parts can be an issue for customers looking to extend warranty and self-repair, but with the lifecycle options we offer in terms of spare parts and warranty extensions we can overcome this concern for customers.

 

Our plan is to rollout the lessons and design concepts of broadleaf into our standard product range so that customers can benefit from better power efficiencies on products like Flex Slim that still take standard form factor parts.

Thanks Andy, I like it for an office environment for sure. What I would love and what I think would be a massive seller for schools if you can get it in the right price point is an updated better looking flex slim.

 

The flex slim has so much going for it in terms of lockable backcover, cable management, integrated PSU, height adjustability, uses standard components etc. It could just do with looking a bit sexier as it has been out for a while now.
