Smoothwall Safeguarding Rule Sets

Really quick question, the rule sets that Smoothwall report on for safeguarding (Abuse, suicide, adult content, etc) where are these groups set / configured because we have some search terms which need to be picked up by the filter.

Are they need not pre set by Smoothwall ?

Under Reports Tab - > Safeguarding -> Notifications

 

Either add a new one or use existing

 

then within the rule 'Select Safeguarding Ruleset' - All or the specific category to trigger.

Ah ok, i've probably not made myself clear,

 

How do i know what categories are part of each of RuleSet.

 

For example, i want to add ISIS to alert HoYs however i don't know where to put this in the system so that the search term alerts the staff.

The article is out of date!! There is no category that is called Personal Weapons or Sexuality Sites.

 

@tom_newton should i contact support again, the first time I contacted them they weren't sure what I was on about.

 

I can't work out why i'm not getting instant notifications when i add a custom search term the follow categories outline in the article:

 

Adult Content 			- Pornography = blocked but no notification
			- Sexuality sites = doesn't exist anymore, is now called Sexuality(?) = blocked no notification

Abuse | Bullying | Suicide 	- Child Abuse / Self Harm = Blocked and notified

Substance Abuse 		- Drugs = allowed but no notification

Criminal Activity 		- Personal weapons = doesn't exist anymore, is now called weapons(?) = blocked no notification
		 	- Criminal Activity = blocked no notification
			- Violence = blocked no notification
			- Drugs = allowed but no notification

Radicalisation			- Terrorism = blocked no notification
			- Intolerance = blocked no notification

So are you trying to add search terms to safeguard lists that you want notifying of?

 

I’m not sure smoothwall has this capability as the list definitions are updated centrally.

 

You can block search terms by adding them to a category with the block action and expanding advanced but this won’t be reported and notified. (Unless smoothwall bods can correct me)

 

However if you have the likes of netsupport etc you can add keywords to their safeguards lists.

We added Monitor to our portfolio as the safeguarding reporting features of Filtering were not cutting it and I'm not sure you'll see anymore development of that side of the product, as you've seen the documentation is already not being kept up to date.

 

If it helps our pastoral team love the Monitor product.

I'm wanting Monitor, we have trailed it in the past but no one seems to be onboard with it, only until something triggers the need for it, only then will it be brought to the top. I guess i'm trying to get something to fit as those above don't understand the difference between systems.

 

I've been saying we need Monitor for years but again, what do i know!

 

We have impero for domain machines which does a better job but Monitor and Impero would be ideal solution.

Tim, that should still work - if you raise a ticket let me know and I will keep an eye on it. SOme of our 1st liners are new (we have undergone a fairly rapid expansion there!) so if theres any confusion I can sort it
