Hi All,

I'm embarrassed to admit we might be outsmarted by a first grader!

She is claiming that her chromebook drops wifi all the time. It happens on every device we give her.

BUT it only drops wifi when you are not watching her operate her chromebook. Our tech stood behind her for 5 full minutes with no issues. The moment he walked away she pronounced that there was no longer a wifi connection. She does it very quickly - is there are key command / shortcut that turns off the wifi to chromebooks?

I've tried just about everything on the keyboard and can't figure out how she's doing it.

Can the Wi-Fi be restored on a "faulty" device when returned to IT Support? (Is the fault permanent once it has cropped up on a device?)

How long is it between the device being handed over and the problem arising?

*Excuse me for saying, but you have minimal post history and you are asking for details about how to acheive something that you could use disruptively if you are not who you claim to be. Also, I'd have thought you would know how to do what you are asking if you are supporting IT kit in an educational environment.

My apologies if I am incorrect here, but your post raises questions in my mind.

While this is a valid thought, I've a fairly extensive post history, have to administer 5 class sets of Chromebooks + a few others but I too have no idea how to turn WiFi on and off through means of a keyboard shortcut.

Fair point: I should have phrased my reply diffrently.

My aim was to give a reply that was in the same tone, the same "voice" as the original query.

I was trying ensure that I did not correct any factual errors that might be found in the original post, while keeping it breif and polite.

I’m a new district technology supervisor and created an account here specifically to seek some guidance. I came across this thread while investigating a situation where a group of fifth graders consistently cause their assigned Chromebooks to lose Wi-Fi, while other students using the same devices do not experience any issues. We’ve had several internal and external tech-savvy individuals trying to identify the cause of this issue, but so far without success. I was hoping to ask whether you were ever able to determine what your first-grade student was doing in this scenario.

Hi Mandy - we watched that student in question, and she quickly clicked in the bottom right corner to shut the wifi off.  No key command, just quick clicking, and a need for some attention!

My only suggestion is that sometimes our students will go from one hallway to another with their Chromebooks on and their Chromebook clings to the access point near their previous classroom.  Is that what's happening?

No, we’ve confirmed this isn’t a roaming issue. The students are sitting in the classroom working on their devices with no problems, and then the connection just suddenly drops. We haven’t found any switch, setting, or keystroke the students could be using to cause this (at least not without it being obvious), so we’re pretty stumped.

Has anyone figured out what was causing this and a solution. We have a 3rd grade student with the same issue. We log in as her, in the same room and tried multiple Dell Chromebooks. Everything works fine. She logs in and wifi disconnects for no apparent reason.
