TV to 3 Way headphone splitter

Hi all,

 

Hope you are well.

 

I am trying to think of the best way to set something up and would appreciate some guidance.

 

OH, eldest and myself would like to watch films together in the living room, but my youngest sleeps directly above it, so we can't have it too loud, which is a pain as I struggle with my hearing.

 

I have an LG TV and LG SL5Y sound bar. What I was thinking is around a 5m optical cable from the TV to a DAC to convert to a headphone splitter that we can then plug in our headphones too. Ideally we would need separate volume controls for them as well, but I could use my gaming headphones for that to push the sound up for me.

Is this the best way to do it? The TV has a headphone jack on, so I could go 5m 3.5mm extension cable to splitter and so on, but didn't know if the length would effect the sound?

Does the TV have bluetooth you might be able to use to connect the headphones wirelessly?

More expensive i know, but Apple TVs hook up with Airpods seamlessly (obviously ignore this comment if you dont have airpods! or in apple environment) but its what i use and works a treat

Thanks, we have only got wired headphones and trying to do things on a budget.

You could use a four-way headphone amplifier / splitter, around £30:

Run a 5m 3.5mm stereo cable from the TV to the splitter, plug in your headphones from there, each with their own volume knob. The device is powered, so there should be enough power to properly amplify the incoming signal and drive four headphones. The one linked to above seems to come with its own power supply, I think we have a USB-powered one around somewhere that we can power from a standard USB power supply.

That's the one - runs on 5V, you can get a USB-to-barrel connector if you want to power it from a USB port.
