Force Onedrive Sync

Hi,

 

We have a hybrid environment with shared desktops. Sometimes someone will create a file, save it on Onedrive, then log off before it has time to sync.

 

Does anyone know a way to force a sync at logoff?

Don't install onedrive, Office apps will still save to onedrive, or make this somehow https://d-fens.ch/2017/08/11/howto-sync-onedrive-on-server-even-if-windows-user-not-logged-in/

 

Or the only sane way: stop having shared computers

You can take a look at this PowerShell script to change OneDrive file attributes - Programming & Development - Spiceworks Community as a starting point. I used to do something similar when OneDrive was slow to sync files. However I have found it vastly improved over the last 18 months or so.

I bought us CloudDriveMapper when we rolled out Onedrive for this reason - Solves the problem

Dont these attribute scripts just change the file from Offline to Online ( saving space ) . But doesnt actually sync the file back ( as the user has already logged off ? )

This is a problem we don't seem to have, despite a setup that matches your description. Intrigued to hear how often do you find this happens?

How many users might be logged on to shared desktops at the same time (we might have up to 500 users with OneDrive clients that are active at any one time, but typically its closer to 300)

What version of Windows are you running (Current Branch?)

Is the OneDrive client correctly updating itself?

What speed is your internet line, is it symmetric?

Are you running through a proxy?

Do you have the appropriate firewall/filter-bypass rules in place for 365?

Do any of these machines have HDD?

What anti virus/anti malware systems are running on the machines. Are they the latest versions (i.e. newer that the version of windows)

What classroom / behaviour monitoring software are you running on the machines? Are these the latest versions etc.

 

 

I fibbed. We do see this happen sometimes when a student dumps a memory card into their OneDrive folder and then just closes the lid of the laptop. But this is maybe every couple of months. We also have seating plans so students theoretically use the same computer each time (seating plans are policy in all lessons not just IT), however the Timetabler will often have classes running in a different rooms for the second session of the week, so the benefit is reduced, but still we only have missing sync'd files reported very occasionally.
