Cloud hosted UniFi controller

Hi All,

 

Just wondering if anyone can vouch for www.clouduni.fi for UniFi cloud hosting.

 

I am looking to use them for a home deployment, instead of spending £££ on something to host it locally.

We tried it for a month and it works. You can only host network equipment there, so no phones, connect or CCTV equipment. We didn't go live with this as you need a gateway anyway to use all the UniFi functionality.

For home use I would go with UniFi Express https://uk.store.ui.com/uk/en/pro/category/cloud-gateways-wifi-integrated/products/ux - compact box with built in WiFi 6 AP and you can manage up to four additional UniFi Network devices

Sorry, I haven't used that hosting service, no. We use a local Cloud Key for management and offsite access - £195, which is pretty good value.

If you're just using for home deployment and have no more than 5 Unifi devices, give http://www.unihosted.com a try.

 

I've been using it trouble free for 2 months with my 3 unifi APs.

 

Went down the raspberry pi route, but it kept crashing about once a fortnight!

Only thing I'd say is that I couldn't get it working with my phone Unifi app, has to be all through a web interface which isn't a huge deal (for me anyway).

 

Edit: One other thing if you use unihosted is that you have to SSH into a freshly reset unifi device to change the Inform URL to point to UniHosted before they can be adopted! Their site has guides on how to do this.

Apologies for hijacking the thread, @Daryn what Raspberry Pi were you using to run the Unifi system? I'm about to put one in for a friend and tests have shown it works fine.

It worked fine, but I had to climb into my house loft to unplug and plug back in around every 2 weeks.

I could ping it, but couldn't SSH into it to do anything!

Ah, that might be why you are having issues, they say use at least at Pi4 and i've bought a Pi5 for my friend.
