[android] Skype on Android has deleted many contacts

This has annoyed me immensely.

On Friday I noticed that my WhatsApp messages had removed the names of my contacts and all I was left with was numbers. At first I thought this was a glitch until a got call from someone who was previously in my Android contacts list and it wasn't tagging them by name.

 

I went into my contacts to see what was up and on many of them I saw that they had a message that said (I should have screengrabbed this) 'This contact is managed by Skype). Those contacts were not in Skype, but it has removed all of their details from my phone.

Needless to say I'm not happy as I have a lot to recreate and many I'll have to re-add from scratch.

If you Google 'Skype has stolen my Android contacts' you'll see this is not exactly rare!

 

So please be careful if you have Skype installed on your Android phone and ensure that it does not have access to your contacts - settings\apps\app management\skype\permissions\contacts - and ensure that Don't allow' is selected'!
