DalekSec Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 As i'm aware theres a few car savvy people in this forum thought i'd share my current issue! My Ford sync is currently on 2.3 (updated when i got the car Jan 23) i turned auto update on at the time and left it, turns out never checked for updates latest is 3.0, the auto check auto just spins constantly. So i downloaded and followed the USB instructions. Failed due to 30min auto shut offer. So i tried again this morning left it for 2 hours (not with engine running) went to have a look and it's reset itself but not updated.... Does the engine need to be running to update it? next plan it to leave the check for update going but im worried about leaving it on the battery for too long
3s-gtech Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Are you able to leave it on a trickle charge plugged in to the mains? Doesn’t sound right though - it shouldn’t take that long to update.
DalekSec Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 Sorry should of mentioned it's diesel not hybrid/electric!
3s-gtech Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Yes I realise that - I mean put the 12v battery on a trickle charger so that it doesn't discharge while the update runs.

Ah sorry, i don't have any battery chargers bar a booster (one off booster thing) so think thats a no go. Might just go on a long trip at the weekend and hope it does it in the time!
Koldov Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 (edited) Don't know if this helps, but: "SYNC updates - SYNC 3 and previous versions of SYNC Wi-Fi (SYNC 3 required) You can drive and use SYNC during the update. Flash drive (SYNC 3 and previous versions of SYNC) Your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the SYNC update installation process. Make sure your vehicle is in a well-ventilated area as your vehicle must remain running until the update is complete. Once the download process starts, you may drive your vehicle. ." https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/sync/sync-updates/can-i-drive-while-sync-is-updating/#:~:text=Your%20vehicle%20must%20be%20in,you%20may%20drive%20your%20vehicle. IIRC when I did my KIA a couple of years ago I left it running. Edited April 17, 2024 by Koldov 2

Dos_Box Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Arg thats annoying, didnt want to annoy people at work with it running and dont fancy my car being stole off my drive! Long drive it is then I've sat in my Mondeo for some quite long periods of time in the past. During lockdown I had to sit in it for quite a while whilst I triggered a DPF regen on it (using Forscan), as I couldn't take it out on a long run.
DalekSec Posted April 21, 2024 Author Posted April 21, 2024 Went for a 2 hour drive yesterday…. Was on updating entire time never went through ….
3s-gtech Posted April 21, 2024 Posted April 21, 2024 Does other online stuff work on it, like traffic info? Either way, you’re probably into dealer territory to look at it, though their prices for diagnostics are going bloody silly.
Squelch Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 (edited) I use cyanlabs syn3 updater to update my focus. https://cyanlabs.net/applications/syn3updater/ It's kind of like Rufus for Sync 3 head units, you can update the system software and/or the maps. Latest version of maps is F12. If you dig around enough you can find out how to only download and update the UK maps rather than all of Europe and then it finishes the updates much quicker. Edited to add clarity. Edited April 22, 2024 by Squelch
