iPads/Tablets - what do you use?

Hi all

 

I am curious to hear how everyone is doing their safeguarding and management of shared iPads/android tablets - what MDM and safeguarding solutions you are using, how you find them and how badly they break the bank (if you can share!)?

 

Have trialled a few but most seem aimed at 1-1 schemes which isn't the direction we are going towards, all our devices are shared use.

60+ "shared" pads under Mosyle free. Not bad, but finding functions only makes sense if you think "the Apple way". PITA for doing most bulk actions unless you pay. Had Lightspeed (paid) before and Mosyle free is better! Most on here favour Jamf.

 

Filtering via SBB/Fortiguard. Not great for reporting in this scenario.

Could you consider touchscreen chromebooks? Infinitely better from a management point of view literally plug and play super secure no extra MDM needed, and not that expensive really.

You still need the £35-ish Google license, don't you?

 

Missed the "Android" bit. @Tys, have you looked at ManageEngine/Zoho? That said, and I feel dirty for saying this, if you have a choice go for the iPads over Android tablets or some horrible kit will be bought as "it's an Android tablet, they're all the same".

Mix of Mosyle free and Meraki across customers. Meraki I've found to be a bit more responsive with devices. On the other hand we've done some big deployments in the thousands using mosyle free.

~160 iPads across 4 schools under 2x Jamf School instances. ~£5/device/year if you want a pool of licenses that you can allocate to any device or ~£12 for a perpetual license for a device (but is tied to the device).

 

One instance (secondary, 1-2-1 for a specific subject) uses Microsoft 365 login for everything. Unwrap iPad, connect to WiFi, login with school email + password and iPad configures itself. Separate instance to make setup seamless from boot.

 

The other instance has 3 primaries with 1-2-1 for the staff and shared for the students.

 

It's decent IMO and you can have N+1 Apple Schools linked to the same instance with per-school sub-accounts.
