Patrick Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Hi all, We have a print server being problematic. The spooler regularly gets stuck on the print server, I've even configured the printer options to print directly to printer and I still get a raft of stuck jobs in the queue. Is it worth doing in place upgrade to 2022 if this is just a known issue with older server versions and to save time troubleshooting? Getting frustrating for me to keep restarting the print spooler. If it's of any importance they are Sharp MFD's. I hate printers!
ckedu-local Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 I'd check the printer driver to make sure it's the correct version & up to date Keep a log of what exactly is freezing the queue. I've had it were printing PDFs direct from a zip folder or printing a PDF from Edge caused the queue to get stuck. Then it's the case of just speaking to staff/sending an email. You can also enable print spooler log in event viewer which may give you some more info. 1
bknaggs Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 SNMP being enabled in your printer ports might be the issue. It’s an issue for me and Konica copiers/MFDs. 1
Patrick Posted March 14, 2024 Author Posted March 14, 2024 Thanks guy, I'll check it out. PDF's and photos look like a culprit, I'll look into the SNMP as well. Thank you!
PotNoodleTech Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Is it a virtual server? If so take a snapshot and try and in place upgrade to 2019. If it works delete the snapshot in 7 days. if it doesnt work revert to the snapshot. I did mine from 2016 to 2019 but not 2022 as didn't have time to replace all the drivers etc. 2019 just worked. 1
Patrick Posted March 18, 2024 Author Posted March 18, 2024 Unfortunately non of the solutions mentioned have had any effect. It's still blocking daily. It's a VM so I'll snapshot it and do in an in place upgrade to see if that helps.
Patrick Posted March 22, 2024 Author Posted March 22, 2024 Just to update anyone who else might end up in the same spot with these sharp drivers on 2016, last night I took a snapshot and did an in place upgrade from 2016 to 2022. Came in his morning and no complaints of a stuck spooler so far, so see what happens in the coming days.
