AspiringTechNerd Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 Hi So I have started a new role and can see a mix of servers 2012 and 2019. I am looking to upgrade to 2019 minimum, ideally 2022. But I can't find where to download the ISOs from, where to find license keys etc. I accessed VLSC and can only see keys for Win 7 and Server 2008 / 2012 (I know, OLD!). On the 365 admin center it only shows the 365 subscriptions and no area for license keys. May be me being stupid or lack of knowledge but I am unsure what to do next! Any advise / guidance is appreciated. Cheers!
Koldov Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 (edited) Not quite as they describe here, but it's close... https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/commerce/licenses/product-keys-faq?view=o365-worldwide#how-to-find-product-keys-in-the-microsoft-365-admin-center On the main home page of VLSC you can click 'Find Product Keys' this should take you to a page where it gives you a link to click for the new MAC. Once you are in MAC click 'Billing' and then 'Your Products' on the left hand side. Then 'Volume Licensing' (somewhere in the middle of the page). Scroll down a bit to 'Products and Services' and underneath that should be 'View Downloads and Keys'. Type in the search box something like 'Server 2022' and from the list next to the product you want there are 3 little dots ... Click those to view the product page and choose 'Keys' from the selection near the top of the page. Then click on the 'two pages' symbol in the middle to copy the key to your clipboard... LeMarchand Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 ^^^ This is Microsoft's idea of making things easier to use! 3
Koldov Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 Caught me out as well the first time I used it! https://www.edugeek.net/forums/licensing-questions/235894-mvlsc-vs-m365-admin-center.html#post2019148 1
Koldov Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 Actually it looks like I found an easier way in that thread! Your Products > Volume Licensing > View Contracts > Three Dots next to appropriate 'contract' > View Product keys This also shows 'activations' and license count. Good job I ask nearly everything here, so I can come back and find it when I forget... 3

Thanks for that but I don't have the option "Volume Licensing > View Contracts > Three Dots next to appropriate 'contract' > View Product keys" Just "products and benefits... odd Any ideas?
Koldov Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 (edited) Could be lots of things unfortunately... In contracts 'View Contracts' do you see anything that is 'Active'...? You might be logged into an 'old' VLSC account (or one that doesn't have permission to view Volume Licensing) although as you said in your OP you can see Windows 7 and Server 2012 in there it's probably old/unused as I can't see anything now in VLSC it only points me to MAC. You might not have Volume Licensing anymore... I do read posts on here sometimes of people buying licenses by other means, or relying on the upgrade rights of whatever was installed on the machine originally, or an OEM license sticker (don't know how old your machines are) or the BIOS license key. Shame it sounds like you didn't get any sort of handover from the previous role holder. Do you know any information about a reseller maybe (as you have to go through one for VL I believe)? If you mean here, that suggests that the account you are using doesn't have the correct permissions. 1
ITGuyNW Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 I had a similar thing when I took over this role. Half the stuff was in an account designated as the Microsoft admin and the keys etc were in an account designated for that. Got any old contracts or know who you got the agreement from to point you in the right direction? 1
TheHyperTechie Posted March 7, 2024 Posted March 7, 2024 I had an issue with this a while ago, all of my keys etc were missing from the O365 console. I reached out to our supplier and they were able to look into it for me, but to be honest I don't think they solved it. I just left it for a week, and they re-appeared. As someone else mentioned, make sure your account is a global administrator (just in case) 1
