SMART Notebook 23 - Latest version more prone to crashing - is it only me?

Hi all,

 

Running the latest version of SMART Notebook across the site 23.2

 

Has anyone else noticed how often it seems to crash or hang over the previous releases?

 

Getting a lot of reports from staff regarding how error prone the software is now since updating from Notebook 22. Simply copying a pasting an image onto a page can cause it to crash.

 

Just want to make sure whether it's just us or an issue with the program.

It's not just you! Have had lots of reports with several of the latest releases. Only thing we also did at the same time was change to computers which have integrated AMD graphics, not sure if this has made a difference?

 

Other issues are text randomly re-sizing and files not looking how they did when they were previously saved.

 

Staff are starting to ask for the older version to go back, as it worked more reliably.

The newest version is awful.

 

I have 7 outstanding tickets with Smart currently.

 

* Frequent crashes without an obvious cause

* Crashing on save to OneDrive - seems to be worse for larger files (Workaround: save to downloads and then move)

* Crashing using snipping tool on windows 11 (Workaround: using Smart capture Toolbar)

* Crashing/Hanging on connection to dock if Notebook window is foreground (hangs) or full screen (crashes) (Workaround: minimise to taskbar before connection)

* Not responding to app scaling so inking is in the wrong place when connecting to board (Workaround: reset scaling or do not connect with Notebook open)

* Notebook only taking unacceptable time - up to several minutes - to become touch reactive after plugging a genuine SMART board in.

* Smart Ink opening multiple copies when connecting/reconnecting different models of SMART board (we run 4065, MX, MX-V2, GX & GX-V2) - can make the machine virtually unusable unless all instances are set to the same function - close from task manager works.

 

 

And a seperate one:

 

* GX V2 Boards make windows report 'too many USB hubs' using a single active USB extender

Hmm. Just starting to roll out a new Windows 11 image and SMART Notebook 23.2 - we have 3 classrooms (out of around 40) on it so far. Thinking I should maybe stay on v22 for now?

Sort of glad to see it's not just something with our Windows setup then!

 

Fingers crossed SMART push a new release with a few bugfixes soon.

Just wondering if SMART have given you any kind of response to the tickets you had open? We are encountering a lot of the same issues now...

I've been *told* that they have made stability improvements & solved the saving and crashing issues to onedrive and the snipping tool.

 

I've had no response to the following though...

No current indication as to when it might be released.

Same issue here. SMART Notebook 23.2.1668.0

 

User is reporting a crash every 10 minutes or so!

Just to say we too have experienced exactly these issues... SMART support has not acknowledged any of these bugs, but we will be rolling back to v22 this week.

Hopefully this will solve the teachers (and therefore my!) problems with SMART, which has up until this version been pretty stable..

I have a couple of new boards to install today, I'll aim to get the new version on there and see how we get on.
