Chromebook - fresh login at restart.

Hi

 

We are looking at dipping our toes in Chromebooks and deploying them to areas that just need to run software in the browser such as Office 365 and Mathswatch.

 

My question, because I have never used / managed a Chromebooks before. Is it possible to set chromebooks to login / turn on with a single user account with a fresh login each time / reset?

 

I would like to avoid having multiple logins so we would set it so users authenicate against AD creds for filtering but the Chrome session is unique to them for that session.

 

Next user comes along, reboots Chromebook, fresh session for that user.

 

I have done this with Win11 and Mac via reboot restore type software before.

Yep, sounds like you need to investigate using a managed guest session.

 

It can be set to automatically launch the session on startup, or alternatively the sign in screen would show a badge for the user to click on to launch the session (no password required) alongside the usual sign in form.

 

You can also set a maximum session time, such that it automatically ends the session after e.g. 1 hour.

Yes, provided the device is enrolled in Google Admin and the following settings is configured:

Device settings - User Data - Erase all local user data

This will erase all local data on log off, giving a fresh login each time.

 

There are a fair few other settings that need to be set on both Device settings and User & browser settings pages, notable Restrict sign-in pattern, turning off Powerwash and enforcing a GB Keyboard. It would be worth going through both pages of settings and ensuring it's configured so that users can't change anything or bypass your restrictions. If you can find a guide somewhere, I would recommend it (my Google-Fu has failed me).
