Imac storage space issue

Hi all

 

 

 

I have 30 imacs in our classroom at 256gb HD space

 

 

 

The school uses Logic pro so it downloads around 90gb ish worth of sound files. What my issue is under storage manager under system settings its showing 150gb plus on all the macs. I am not able to delete or see where the space is taking. As result its having issues on students gcse and even downloading the remaining sound files.

 

 

I have done factory reset of all the macs few weeks ago so this didnt help!

 

 

 

Any ideas?

We found culprit, purchased daisy disk and its shwoing 140gb is used by Users directory

 

What is best way to delete that all than manaual deleting?

 

Is there way to stop it creating local profiles or delete on log off?

You can stop it creating local profiles (it's a tickbox in the Directory Utility where you join it to a domain). I found that they were unreliable without it ticked though.

 

I have this issue big style with some older Mac Minis that I put SSDs in - they're on 10.13 and it just fills the disk. Seems to be a bug with that version.

We have our Macs bound to AD, but don’t enable ‘mobile accounts’ except for MacBooks going off-site.

 

We use OneDrive for storage (except for Logic as it doesn’t play well). We also found that Adobe Creative Cloud drive was taking up loads of space as it doesn’t do files on-demand like OneDrive does.

 

We’ve disabled Adobe Creative Cloud drive and then have a custom script run via a Jamf policy that runs once a week to remove profiles older than X days (we have it at 45 days which seems to be ok).

 

We also have a Jamf extension attribute script that collects the size of the /Users folder so we can keep an eye on it.
