tomscaper Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I know this is not the answer your looking for but shouldn't a server should really have a static ip set.
EduTech Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Yh a server should only have one static IP address.. Looks like you have another adapter been used bar the Network Interface card.. Do you have any more cards been used (network wise) James.

kmount Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 That appears to be a connection as a result of plugging into a modem.
IA76 Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 I know this is not the answer your looking for but shouldn't a server should really have a static ip set. It has and it's 192.168.1.200 Yh a server should only have one static IP address.. Looks like you have another adapter been used bar the Network Interface card.. Do you have any more cards been used (network wise) James. We only use the ethernet adaptor Yh a server should only have one static IP address.. Looks like you have another adapter been used bar the Network Interface card.. Do you have any more cards been used (network wise) James. We don't use VPN, only RDP That subnet mask is not a valid one are you sure you have copies all the details correctly? I copied & pasted from the ipconfig/all screen and that is what was displayed there That appears to be a connection as a result of plugging into a modem. No new modems have been plugged in but I know that a networkable external hard drive was plugged in sometime last week and the software for it was installed on the server. Could this have caused it as this taking 2 IPs thing only seems to have started since the hard drive was used? Thanks for all the replies
srochford Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I know this is not the answer your looking for but shouldn't a server should really have a static ip set. Why? DNS and WINS servers must have fixed IPs but while it might be "tidier" to use fixed IPs on other servers I can't think of any reason why it should be so.
IA76 Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 Mystery solved. It looks like someone was attempting to setup a VPN connection. Sorry for wasting your time!
GrumbleDook Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I *so* want to say "told you so" .. but that would be childish and silly. Instead I will be childish and silly by going off to read some of Spike Milligan's poetry in peace and quiet now that *STAFF HAVE GONE HOME*!!!!!
