Screenshare / Mirror

Hi,

 

Hoping you can help/advise.

 

I'm wanting to know your suggestions/advice on what app you are using to screenshare/mirror. We have a VI student who has a iPad and would like to screenshare the board to his iPad.

 

What are your recommendations?

 

Was currently using TeamViewer Meeting but I think it only allows you to use this for a certain period of time before it stops working.

 

Do correct me if I'm wrong.

So often you'd think it was a viable opportunity for someone to create a specific app (but maybe for a small developer working on something for a niche market with Apple may mean it's prohibitive)...

 

I think the majority suggested TeamViewer, VNC, Teams, or something along those lines, with the caveat of reminding teachers to be careful what their screen is showing.

 

I haven't got round to sorting it out yet though!

I think AirServer goes from iPad to computer/laptop, could be wrong (but that would be a good thing as we already have it).

 

We were asked (and I think the OP wanted) to get the teacher's screen/projector image onto an iPad.

Ah gotcha yeah we use teams for that.

Anther recommendation for Teams - it achieves whats needed. I'd imagine that you're already setup / using it.

This we have and works by mirroring your iPad to the board but doesn’t work the other way around.

Presumably you could continue using it if someone was prepared to pay for it? I know site licences can get very expensive for these things, but I would have thought it should be manageable within the cost of supporting an individual student's needs.

As other have pointed out, your usual remote-learning solution generally works quite well - post-Covid, I'd be surpirsed if most schools weren't signed up to use at least one of Google's (Meet) or Microsoft's (Teams) solutions. We use Google Classroom / Meet, with the child being assigned a Chromebook - we found there was a bit more choice of devices available, with a range of screen sizes, 11" up to 27", for the visualy-impared user.

Apache Guacamole will do you a web-accesible remote desktop solution. For this particular use-case, you could install VNC on the teacher's desktop machine and allow the pupil read-only access (although, as a teacher, I think I'd prefer to use screen sharing from Meet / Teams, less chance of the pupil just logging in to see my desktop at any time).

 

I have a small project available on Github that will help install a Guacamole server on a fresh Debian install and configure it to work with Cloudflare's Zero-Trust product, putting your remote desktop behind an OAuth2-protected login:

We are exploring Veyon to broadcast to our VI students but they have windows based laptops and it doesn't work on ipads. Our CTouch interactive panels have eShare which can screen share both ways to iPads but we aren't going down that route.

We use Splashtop Classroom we have a few licences for the specific mirroring for our VI children, screen mirrored form teacher direct to the ipad pro, works great, not expensive either. Somewhere I have a list of apps to achieve this that the specialist provided who deals with VI and classroom tech, I,ll post when I dig it out.

+1 for using Teams on a iOS device. Makes use of the inbuilt accessibility functions and allows the user to pinch & zoom to view content on the teacher display. I've even created a guide for staff to follow and it's gone down well.

I've used zoom for this in the past but google meet or Teams would work if you already have those set up.
