Cloud CCTV (Not used in a school setting)

Afternoon all.

 

I have been asked to look for a cloud based CCTV solution with the following requirements.

 

 

1. No network cables
   
2. Cloud storage for videos
   
3. An app to allow remote access to cameras
   

 

Just to confirm that this will be set up at our office building which does not have any students in. They just want to be able to keep an eye on things from home.

 

I'm aware that Ring might be an option but I was just thinking if anyone knew of another solution.

Could look at the UniFi Protect system. They do some cameras which are wireless, still need powering though.

I had a look at these but they seem to require an NVR to be installed on site. The boss wants a complete cloud solution.

Not sure there are many enterprise solutions that tick that box but something like the Amazon Blink cameras only need batteries and last up to two years. Not sure how compliant they are on a GDPR front etc.

Just checking, when you say CCTV, do you mean a single camera or multiple cameras as part of a system? The issue you will hit is that the majority of these will be consumer units and you will hit limitations, have issues on a corporate network or following corporate compliance.

 

So your options start at home systems like Blink, Eufy, Arlo, Ring, Nest or Arlo. Not saying I recommend any of those for proper use, but they would fill the quick and dirty Wi-Fi camera to keep an eye. Then there is a massive gulf up to something like Verkada.

Personally I'd be careful about recommending any cloud storage based CCTV :-)

 

I'd be inclined to ask why it has to be cloud based storage though.

Its a small office in a very old building so want to reduce the need to run network everywhere. As for the reason it needs to be cloud only solution is because they want to reduce any onsite hardware.

 

This was a passing request which I'm sure wont lead to much but just wanted to see if anyone had other options.

We've worked with Verkada before, I will say it's quite a slick product. Definitely the other end of the pricing spectrum in comparison with something like Ring but it is a business product.
