Google Workspace - You don't have access to this service

Just researching something on the internet and came across a search result from 'Google Workspace Help', on the search page it seems to point to:

https://support.google.com

but clicking on the link takes me to a different URL

https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/articlehome?hl=en&article_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fa%2Fthread%2F38689646%2Fimplement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts%3Fhl%3Den&assistant_id=generic-unu&product_context=38689646&product_name=UnuFlow&trigger_context=a

However the title is there and the rest of the page is blank.

If I cut the URL down to:

https://apps.google.com

It takes me to:

https://workspace.google.com/

If I cut the original URL down to:

https://apps.google.com/supportwidget

It takes me to a page that says:

"You don't have access to this service. To request access, contact the administrator for your organisation’s Google services.

If you’re a Google services administrator, you can turn on services. Learn more"

Not very helpful, what 'service' am I supposed to turn on...?

If I try the main URL with Edge and not signed in it prompts for sign-in.

But the user I'm signed on with in Chrome is a Super Admin, with 76 of 76 Google Services on and the OU has all additional Google services on... what am I missing?

Is it to do with being on Education Fundamentals?

I wonder if this is tied in to one of my previous posts about not being able to see any info in the 'About this result' box when clicking the 3 dots next to a search item...

Thanks! What edition of Google Workspace are you guys on?

Yeah, it's the second link where it starts to go funky...

It seems to redirect me to a different URL than the first (where it 'should' actually go).

Also, it gets stranger... when I hover over the link in the Google search page it resolves to:

https://support.google.com/a/thread/38689646/implement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts?hl=en

When I'm signed on as my standard account it takes me to that URL and I can see the help article.

When I use my Super Admin account it takes me to:

https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/articlehome?hl=en&article_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fa%2Fthread%2F38689646%2Fimplement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts%3Fhl%3Den&assistant_id=generic-unu&product_context=38689646&product_name=UnuFlow&trigger_context=a

It's like it is trying to do something special with that URL because it acknowledges I'm signed on as an admin maybe, but fails to do anything with it (because maybe I'm supposed to have a 'Support Widget' installed?)...

I can't upload screenshots either... maybe it's a Friday afternoon thing and it's telling me to forget about it until Monday!

There's 2 things happening... and I'm not sure if they are related, maybe that's confusing the issue!

Firstly here is a URL (just happened to click on it whilst doing a search for an issue) I just thought it was a normal Google 'Help' page:

https://support.google.com/a/thread/38689646/implement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts?hl=en

If I click on this when I'm not signed in, it's OK and if I sign in with my normal 'staff' account it takes me to the URL as is, straight to the page and it displays fine as well.

However, if I click on it whilst signed in as my Super Admin account it redirects and takes me here:

https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/articlehome?hl=en&article_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fa%2Fthread%2F38689646%2Fimplement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts%3Fhl%3Den&assistant_id=generic-unu&product_context=38689646&product_name=UnuFlow&trigger_context=a

However, there is only the page title and the rest is blank...

If I copy and paste that second URL in without signing in it asks me to sign in... so it is redirecting me to an 'admin' version of that page?

The other issue is when signed is as Super Admin, if I click on the three dots next to a search in Google the pop-up box that should have 'about this result' has a 403 error in that section.

EDIT: Maybe there is some sort of 'Help & Support' service or (widget) that I have got enabled as I've got 'everything' turned on in Google Workspace, all the Additional Google Services and all the Services with no Individual Controls.

Is there something in there that would recognise a Google help and support URL and redirect me to a page that should be displayed by a 'widget' or Chrome add-on or something that I don't have installed?

The thing that made me think it was a service or permission issue (or something not available to our subscription level), was that if I take that 2nd URL (the one it redirects me to)

https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/articlehome?hl=en&article_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fa%2Fthread%2F38689646%2Fimplement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts%3Fhl%3Den&assistant_id=generic-unu&product_context=38689646&product_name=UnuFlow&trigger_context=a

I haven't used the forum insert URL function here and have highlighted in bold interesting terms... and shorten it to just:

https://apps.google.com/supportwidget

It tells me:

"You don't have access to this service."

So, if it's redirecting me to a URL which is reliant on me having access to a service that I don't have...

I wonder if its directing you to a service that is no longer in use but you have enabled? Maybe that is why we get the 404 error.

I only have the services I use enabled rather than enabling them all.

I wouldn't know which it was causing the issue though - just had a scan through and none of them really stand out.

Have you tried Google support? They are usually pretty good.

Makes more sense now!

Yeah, I can get to the "proper" page with no "school" credentials, even with my home ones.

Yes, that sounds right, but can you get to them 'with' school credentials (especially signed in as a Super Admin)?

Or (whilst signed in as Super Admin) when you click on the first link does it try to redirect you to the second?

Yeah I did the same and tried to find one that seemed like it would point to a 'Help & Support' widget/service (I didn't see anything that stood out either).

I wasn't sure in the beginning what I'd need enabled (still not really sure) so I enabled everything, but must admit I have no clue what 99% of them even do...

If I go to the original OP link (https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/articlehome?hl=en&article_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fa%2Fthread%2F38689646%2Fimplement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts%3Fhl%3Den&assistant_id=generic-unu&product_context=38689646&product_name=UnuFlow&trigger_context=a) using a Workspace Plus admin account, the page is blank apart from the main "Google Workspace Help" banner.

If I open it in an incongnito window, it asks me to sign in.

The underlying url in there is https://support.google.com/a/thread/38689646 which loads fine either way.

If I go to https://apps.google.com/supportwidget it's a 404 either way.

If I go to https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/helphome I get the little support chat widget. Is that available for those on Fundamentals? I suspect that live support widgetry is meant to be being integrated across the support pages but is not quite behaving right, with the site not quite sanitising URLs properly.

Yes. It seems dependent on having the post title ("implement-account-lockout-for-g-suite-accounts") in the URL. Take that out and it works.

Another randomly selected community post show the same behaviour:

https://support.google.com/a/thread/244430513 vs https://support.google.com/a/thread/244430513/can-t-add-more-storage-to-my-google-workspace-account

Many thanks.

Well, at least we've established there isn't anything 'wrong' with the settings on my Admin account!

Google support were unfortunately as I'd expected....

After I explained my problem twice, 'Amit' wanted me to:

a) Do a Google Meet...

b) Clear my cookies...

then...

c) Told me that he could access the URL...

d) Gave me a different URL for the support page so I could access it, even after I told him that actually I could access the original URL anyway as long as I wasn't signed in as Super Admin... as then it automatically redirects me to the blank page and I can't stop it!

Definitely still something going on (wrong) here...

Latest issue is I can't drop the little figure onto a map to get Google Street View!

Google Maps is ON for my OU. and it works when signed out.
