maxrebo Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 I'm new to Hyper V, when we create a new VM, its sets the number of virtual processors to 24, wondering what everyone sets their default to? Obviously depends on what the servers doing but the one I'm currently setting up would be for WSUS and a few other minor roles. Thanks
Steve21 Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 1 as default unless it’s a high priority machine then 2 Anything else I normally wait to see how it performs before increasing it, as remember vcpus don’t compute directly to real cores Steve
DalekSec Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Depends on your server CPU, if you have a ton of cores/thread then go ham. If not a lot 1/2 per machine unless higher load (e.g ruckus used to need 6+ IIRC)
Davit2005 Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Set default as 2 vCPU and increase according to requirements. Why give a virtual machine running Unifi controller all the CPUs :-). Does a Domain controller require 24 vCPUs prob not.
