Battery Calibration for refurbed Laptops

Interested to know if anyone has purchased refurbished laptops and been instructed to calibrate the new batteries they provide?

 

We've ordered a fair few HP EliteBook 840 G5's and they all seem to come with a handy little slip instructing us to fully charge and drain the thing for three to four cycles.

 

Irritatingly these things are so blooming efficient it takes ages to go through the process that many times before we can hand out the laptops to the staff/students, anybody got recommendations for software we can run that will speed up the power drainage?

I've never used it to drain power, but HeavyLoad may help. (Use the "portable" version).

that's fair, the slip really likes to hammer home the wanton destruction that an over/undercharged lithium battery will exact upon you if you don't do it, but if your place of work hasn't burnt down then I will mention this to my line manager as proof

I've used HeavyLoad a lot, had a bunch of toshiba l630s in xp era that would randomly just hang, turned out they were fine when powered, but running heavyload and disconnecting the power would reliably cause the issue to occur

Funnily enough ordered those exact laptops and never had any slip regarding battery calibration with them.

I've had those slips with refurbished laptops before - I usually do 1 full power cycle during setup & then release it into the wild

Any battery calibration required (that's an argument in itself) should be done by the suppplier as part of their refurbishment process. I.e they should send the laptop to you fully working and tested.

 

If not, find another refurb suppplier.
