Hi all,

I have been looking at the many firewalls on the market and their web filtering, more specifically their safeguarding alerts features. .

Having talked to many manufacturers the option for safeguarding alerts in a foreign language is not available or currently in the pipeline for release next year.

Are there options out there?

Is using an english based language webfilter database only and blocking access to non-safesearch sites the only other solution?

Any opinions are much appreciated!

Darren

Thank you

Does that apply to the safeguarding database. Does the smoothwall still work by leveraging google to display the Samaritans message for triggering safeguarding alerts in a foreign language? Forgive me that is what we had been previously told.

Safeguarding alarms work in foreign languages:)

Do you write in e.g. Google "how to commit suicide" in Swedish "Hur begår man självmord" and there will be a Smoothwall Safeguarding alarm.

As search is caught by the content filter, we do not block Self Harm, but of course take care of the alarms.

We ourselves have created a category with URLs/domains for various helplines for either you yourself or someone in your immediate vicinity is unwell, or it is a school assignment.

For example. this https://www.papyrus-uk.org So we follow up on this category as well…

I hope that answered your question.

Nope got the same answer.

Ok I will pose the question a different way, if I have a Sophos or Fortigate firewall, I understand to get instant alerts and safeguarding protection, a web reporting add on is needed.

Which web reporting providers tick the non-english language for safeguarding.

We have Smoothwall Monitor (rebranded after aquiring Visigo and Policy Central) and we were told that it can capture that. However, with the amount of languages spoken at our school...we are not entirely sure if this is accurate, as it appears all the captures we deal with are in English.

I'm answering the question about the firewall / Cloud Filter from Smoothwall, I don't know what Shophos and Fortigate can do, but I don't think they have support for e.g. Swedish.

Safeguardning the alarm in Smoothwall takes place directly from the Cloud Filter.

There are quite a few different categories in Smoothwall that create Safeguardning alarms.

These categories also contain phrases and words in a number of languages, so the content filter will catch even these foreign languages and alert if it is a Safeguardian category.

There are also very many domains and URLs from other countries that are also included in these Smoothwall categories.

There is no extra setting that needs to be done in Smoothwall.

As for the Smoothwall Monitor, I don't know much about them.
