Smoothwall Noise

We moved from a Fortigate firewall a Smoothwall over the summer and seems to be going ok so far

 

We have the S9+ and just wodnered if anyone else had this model and could comment on the noise of the unit?

 

Since the start of term the fans sound like they are going full speed and like a jet engine. Just wondered if this was normal as you could hardly hear the old fortigate unit

Our S9 isn't quite by any stretch, but no louder than other servers in the rack.

Our two old Dell server based Smoothies went like this when the iDRACs died (they were screaming, being a 1U server). Very unlikely that's broken on a new one, but it's possible that it has lost some settings and is running flat-out as a fail safe.

The RPM on our old Smoothwall box sounded like it was constantly fluctuating between 75%-100%.

I also have a new S9+ that was installed over the summer. About once every maybe 5/10 minutes the fans spin up to maximum and then drop back down to normal levels. It runs like that all day and presumably night. Old Smoothwall was S5 and it was very quiet in comparison.
