Motherboard Purchase on Ebay and carpet

Just a quick grumble at every 3rd seller on ebay... if you are smart enough to build and sell PCs parts, why... why, do you insist on putting the motherboard on the carpet!

 

CARPET... The Electro Static Generating king! It'd be safer to take a picture on the lawn, the bath tub.

I'm not saying it never has or can't happen, but in my 20+ years of working in IT, I've never killed anything with static.

Whilst they are at it, they should also check the price of the thing they are selling compared to what you can buy new.

I have noticed that many retailers are now slashing the prices of AM4 kit (cpu's and motherboards etc.) The amount of people trying to sell their previously high end parts are often close (and sometimes over) the retail price now.

If you have an AM4 based setup and don't want to fork out for AM5 just yet, then now is the ideal time to get a cheap upgrade route!

I had to upgrade the RAM and add a CPU in 12 blade servers at the last place. No way I was going to do that without the proper anti-static stuff i.e. Mat, wristband, etc. I even seem to remember that you could get disciplinary from some server manufacturers if you were caught not taking the proper precautions.

Whilst I can't point to a certain static death either, I can say that things that did work, didn't after being handled or moved. I just sold a working GT1030 on ebay, put it in antistatic bag and when the buyer got it, it was dead... The PC he tested it in was on carpet... So I'm out postage and a £50 note..
