Smart Panel E70 or 4000 series

Hey people,

 

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on a slight issue with an older Smart panel model. I think it's an E70 or a 4870? Something like that. It was hooked up via VGA before and worked fine, now it's HDMI. Only problem is I'm getting no signal on any of the HDMI's. The PC is a Dell AIO, brand new, Windows 10 Edu, Duplicating displays etc. It's detecting the second display, the sound is there but the panel is just displaying 'no signal'. It's as if it's out of range or something because if I touch the panel I see where I am touching on the computer screen, but it's not displaying an image. Can anyone help? I can't imagine that all HDMI ports are shot as they've never been used. It's got about a 5 metre cable kit running to a face plate with two HDMIs. However I've also tried plugging a 3 metre HDMI directly into the PC to the Panel to bypass the faceplate and that didn't work either?

Can't be much help other than to say we have had about 15 of the E70's and although 1 or 2 have had a single hdmi port go bad, we really haven't had any issues with them. Only being a HD display they also haven't ever been overly fussy about the hdmi cable either, the new 4k ones we've been putting in object a lot to cheap hdmi cables.

 

Have you tried another computer with the boards, and a standard monitor with the AIO's to rule out either being at fault?

If it’s the E70’s, then I think I know the answer, as it had me stumped for quite a while, some time back. Eventually I found in the manual that the max supported HDMI cable length is something like 3m, which is next to nothing. Not very Smart, but nor is the fact they put the up volume button below the down volume button. If you use some kind of HDMI repeater with the lengths you want to use, you should find it solves it.

Cheers Steveg. I will try different HDMI cables on Monday. I had issues on another one and somehow managed to get it working. From memory I think I used different HDMI cables. Edited September 2, 2023 by bmlodge

Thanks Zourous. I did read somewhere that they need short HDMI cables, which makes it pretty pointless having them installed. I'm sure the one I plugged into the panel directly was 3 metres but didn't seem to work. It's really annoying and all the kids come back Wednesday. Think I have a booster somewhere which I can try with the 3 metre cable.

All sorted. I think it was the input select. I thought I was selecting the HDMI but I wasn't. Would have been a lot easier with a remote but that went walkies
