Automatic remedial measures on IT kit

Hi All

 

We are looking at implementing some automated measures to maintain availability. For example if a disk is getting full a monitoring alert will remove pre defined files. If an Access point goes offline, then it will automatically reboot etc..

 

Anyone had any success with this?

yep. Automating stuff like this is basically my job now I've left the education sector!

It will be a lot of configuration as code, and many of the members here think that's a waste of time and only for large orgs (of which I am not employed by!).

I would start by learning some ansible: https://www.ansible.com/overview/how-ansible-works

We use Zabbix, but plenty of others out there

I use LibreNMS for most things for general overview etc.

As we use UniFi for AP and switches, I get the controller to email when AP or switch goes offline.

Also out of education now but I'm using Ansible myself for most things including automatic remediation of service failures, automation of manual processes, automated daily checks, network config management and patching of Windows/Linux devices plenty of great learning material out there and well worth the effort.

If a human operator needs to touch your system during normal operations, you have a bug. The definition of normal changes as your systems grow.
