Pixel 6a not charging

I got a new Pixel 6a last week and got it unboxed etc. Plugged it in and at first it didn't start charging. Tried a different cable and left it plugged in. It charged and I read online that the Pixel can be a bit funny with some chargers so didn't think anything of it. I went out for a walk yesterday and when I went to use my phone and it was off. I thought it was a bit odd but I never checked how much battery I had before I left so I didn't think much of it. But when I came home I plugged my phone in and it doesn't charge. I get a picture of a battery on the phone when I plug it in, but it doesn't seem charge. I have tried holding the power button down for 30 secs but still nothing. It does recognise the cable is plugged in, but I can't do anything else.

 

It seems like this is a case of a dead battery, but is there something else I can check? The plug and cable is OK for charging other phones & Tablet.

I have a new 6a, used several different cables and charging bricks, all see OK.

 

The only thing I would point out is that the 6a USB C port seems to be little further inside the chassis compared to my previous phones, so I have to push the connector in that little bit further. its probably only the case of a few mm but it caught me out a few times at first, i have one of those full body cases so thats probably half the reason though.

I have the same phone and found my usual charger did not work. I had to buy a 30W charger.

When I plug my Pixel 6A in at night, it won't start charging immediately, it will start charging at some point during the night in time to be fully charged at 6am (when my alarm is set for). I believe the feature is called adaptive charging and can be turned off/configured. Probably not what is happening here as I doubt it would let the phone run out of battery completely.

I know about the charger, but I did charge this phone when I first had it so I can't see it being specific to the charger I'm using. I would have expected the phone to never charge rather than charge 1 time and not again? I also left it plugged in all night last night but still nothing. I am due to go on holiday tomorrow and of course by the time I get back it will be too late to just swap the phone which is annoying as I would have probably bought a new charger to replace the old ones I have lying around to at least make sure I have tried everything. And of course I don't know anyone with a Pixel where I can try their charger.

 

My wife has had issues with her old phone that it would suddenly go from say 40% to dead because of extreme cold. At that point, you needed to plug it back in and it would then come back to life with normal battery status. In this case, there is no extreme weather.

Another question. When I plug it in I see the battery icon in the middle of the screen, but then after a couple of seconds it disappears. When the phone is charging, should there be some indication on the screen of % etc? If I press the button, it just shows the battery icon, and then goes off again.

No, because the phone is off. My wife is currently taking it back to exchange (hopefully) as I am in work as she is off today

Just to provide an update on this in case anyone else has similar problem. Got the new phone. No issues with charging. In fact when I unboxed it I could turn it on, something that I couldn't do with the first phone. I've had it a week or 2 now and have charged it a few times without any issues. Also went to bed last night when the battery saver prompted me for a low battery. In the morning it was still on and I charged it to full today. So I guess it was a faulty product. I have some issues that don't seem to work but I am going to raise a different thread for that.
