Reglaze glasses

Hi Guys,

 

Age has caught up with me and now after all this time have to wear glasses, I picked some prescription ones up from boots earlier in the year.

 

I found a lovely pair of frames that I got off ebay and wanted to get them reglazed with my prescription.

 

I know the high street is a rip off so anyone know of any online services that people have used that are also reasonable?

I've found it's often cheaper to buy new frames with the new lense perscription in them, or at least not that far off cost wise. However, an optitians should be able to create new lenses for your chosen frames, even if you didn't buy it from them. You'd probably have to give the frames to them and they'll get sent to the lab where the lenses are created.

Thanks yeah i got some quotes from boots and realised its very expensive and saw online services so wanted to get a feeler if anyone used any.

The question for me would be, "How much do you value your eyesight?"

 

While it may be (a LOT!) cheaper to send your prescription off to an online retailer, the fact is that they won't know your individual requirements and you may end up with glasses that do you more harm than good.

 

For example, I've just bought a new pair of varifocals from a local independent optician after breaking the arm off an old pair. As well as having a thorough eye-test, after I had chosen the frame, careful measurements were taken so that the optical centre of each lens was in exactly the right position. We also discussed my individual needs to determine the correct type of lens and the position and gradation of each area of the varifocal to give me the best vision possible.

 

Yes, it cost me a few hundred quid, but now I can see everything! I can look straight ahead at my monitor, down at my keyboard, out of the window and it's all crystal clear.

 

Like many things, if we switch to buying glasses online because it's cheaper, then we'll lose these crucial services altogether.

 

Sorry, if that reads like a rant, but 'Won't somebody please think of the opticians!'
