Autodiscover - 3rd party issue?

I've got a friend who has asked for some help with regards to IONOS and their emails hosted on the IONOS exchange servers.

 

They were originally on an Exchange 2013 plan and they got IONOS to upgrade them to Exchange 2019 however now they have come to re-setup outlook 365, their account Exchange account will not set up on Outlook 365.

 

I've run an autodiscover test via outlook and the autodiscover for their custom domain is failing yet when we use MXTOOLBOX to query the CNAME autodiscover.domain.com it checks out as it should according to the IONOS instructions.

 

After being on the phone to IONOS for about an hour trying to resolve this issue, IONOS have told my friend to contact the SMB dept tomorrow as they will be able to assist however i'm not holding up much hope for this.

 

Surely it's up to IONOS to host the autodiscover xml and it's them who have screwed this up? After all the xml should contain incoming and outgoing servers as exchange2019.ionos.co.uk.

 

My friend is half tempted to move their mailboxes (about 5) to an Office365 business subscription so all their users can use Exchange.

I not sure if I'm making this up or not, but does outlook require HTTPS for auto discover now? Does the site have a valid certificate?

The site does have a valid certificate, i can browse to exchange2019.ionos.co.uk and login to the OWA there without any problems.

 

I'm going to try Outlook on another PC to see what that does as i know it's definitely not user based on the local machine as this does the same with another Windows user account.

I've heard that Autodiscover is now working after IONOS made changes last night to the autodiscover DNS - it really did take it's time to propagate around the world.

I've got a school with a lot of services identified with IONOS DNS and their DNS changes always seem to take aaaaaages to propagate from them. I added a CNAME for a website not more than a month ago and it took over 24 hours for whatsmydns to show it anywhere near fully propagated.

We had a couple of Schools on them too and found the same thing, unlike GoDaddy which is pretty much instant.

 

There is one thing that is popping up on the Outlook though and that is that silly "Allow this website to configure (email address) server settings...." blah blah blah (https://kb.salisbury.edu/display/TSC/Popup+message+about+configuring+email+address+server+settings+when+opening+Outlook)
