Our school would like a electronic survey in reception. The kind where you press on stars for your experience and then enter follow up questions for example.

I was thinking an iPad with a kiosk stand and then a Microsoft Form but quickly realised that this may not work as even if the iPad is put into guided mode it won't look professional as the survey may be left half completed etc.

There are plenty of paid for solutions I can see on the market but has anyone used one or even better have a free alternative please?

Are you thinking of writing and hosting the survey software? Pretty simple bit of code if you have the resources.

We have similar built in house across the site for other purposes - mix of touchscreen monitors into mini PCs, Microsoft Surface/Surface Go, little mini tablet PC. The forms are based on an on-site IIS.

Thanks for the reply, I mean I'm not a great coder but would be willing to host onsite if I can find some examples online to copy and repurpose. Any help or pointers would be appreciated thanks.

I can give you some components that I think will help, like a page refresh timeout (in case it's left half completed) and a basic form. I don't have a complete page to give you without building it from scratch which would probably be heavily critiqued for being crap!

Start by having a table available in your favoured database (like MySQL). You'll need PHP running too.

Then use a framework like Bootstrap so that you don't have to build the styles yourself..

You can set Forms to timeout after a minute and it will submit whatever has been filled in, annoyingly it goes to the Thankyou for submitting page and you have to click to submit another response, don't think there is a way to refresh back to the Form

Thanks everyone, I feel a in house solution may be a bit above my level especially as then I'll have to get involved with exporting and making it look pretty.

Forms would be perfect if it just had a few features like automatically going back to the start but I didn't know about the new timer feature so thats helpful thanks.

FYI after doing some more research I've found a great free app on iOS named Kiost+ which does what I need using Forms for free.

Cheers everyone
