Intune Deployed Apps / Shared Devices

Hi all,

 

Been running a project to pilot Intune as part of a Windows 11 roll out within a High School. A major concern for me currently is, I am using Intune for all its worth such as autopilot the devices then assigning to groups and allowing Intune to then deploy a set of student applications.

 

Some of these applications are packaged by myself using the Intune Win32app util and some are using Intunes own repository for apps such as Blender and Python that are available within its catalogue (windows store).

 

What I've noticed though is on our shared devices in the ICT suite, if a user logs on for the first time it would seem the Intune deployed (windows store apps) don't persist across different user logons so a new user has to wait for their apps to become available. Whilst the Win32app do appear to be persistent and are readily and instantly available.

 

Wouldnt be a problem if the user could just launch the company portal app and force the install of an app that is missing, but the Company Portal app itself is a UWP store app so once again isn't instantly available to use when logging in. I predict I'll get complaints from teachers saying lessons are being delayed due to lack of applications.

 

Has anyone experienced this and can part with any advice or guidance?

I have now just moved away from UWP apps and just worked around them

Could use Microsoft Store app (new) deployment via Intune, in system context (if app supported)

Interesting approach but would have concerns regarding the apps getting automatic updates. See the reply from MYK-IT. The article from learn.microsoft.com regarding New Store App is only 4days old! Mentions:

 

-System context and user context are supported for UWP apps. Hopefully this means install app as device rather than user.
