We have a shared mailbox in O365 with Automatic Replies not being sent externally, works fine internally.

Any ideas?

There are no forwarding rules on the mailbox, which I've read can affect it.

Message trace result just states the external mails have "failed"!

That might just be the “feature”

If you have internal and external it shows one failed on the trace despite working :p

Test it on an external account and see if it’s working. As I’ve had that multiple times and yet when I test it it does work oddly

Microsoft have said it's because our DNS settings are not with them - don't really understand why that would be causing this.

Our mail flows Barracuda for SPAM checking etc - so I'll need to raise it with them, see if it's a known limitation.

Very odd.

Maybe it's how it sees the auto-generated email and think it's SPAM .

When you setup an out of office, it actually sends two email for every email received and the transport system drops one. So the drop could be a false positive.

Dumb question but are the out of office settings on the mailbox correct?

Yes, double checked.

Not much to misconfigure really.

Assume that's actually the setting for the shared mailbox proper and not the mailbox that's initially logged into (sorry)

An out of office doesn't have the senders from address below the skin, how does your barracuda know its your office365 sending the email? some sort of x-header? and does that apply to the out of office message?

There used to be a setting in Exchange, not sure if its there in O365 as never had the need to look but you could stop it sending OOO to external addresses, does such exist in 365?
