Converting MTS to MP4

The Drama department have a Camera than records everything as .MTS files, and every 30 minutes, makes a new one. For part of the exams they have to upload it as .MP4, I had a look at a basic converter and noticed that it said the files in .MTS were the same size as the files out. MP4. So I tried renaming the file extensions and that worked, but does anyone know if you lose any quality in doing it? Cheers.

If it's not running through any form of conversion process the quality should be identical.

It won't technically be a mpeg4 container, it will contain the same video codec, but many players will ignore the extension and work out that's an m2ts container.

 

So I suggest asking them to test if it's working with your example file first
