Faulty Laptop Diagnostics

Hi All,

 

Strange one here, I'm normally quite good at finding hardware faults but this laptop as stumped me.

 

It keeps randomly freezing and becoming unresponsive till a turn off and on.

 

I originally thought it was the Motherboard, got it replaced under warranty. Still doing it.

 

It doesn't leave any logs etc when it crashes that i can find, no BSOD or anything in event log.

 

Things i've tried:

 

Another OS, crashes also in Ubuntu

MemTest, comes up clean

CPU / RAM / HDD / GPU stress tests for an hour + and no crash

All on board diag tools come up clean.

 

It hasnt crashed at all for me today having done it couple times yesterday! It's a powerful device so don't want to chuck it on the scrapheap.

 

Next up will try changing the RAM but it seems fine from testing it.

had one crashing machine where reseating the RAM resolved it even after MemTest passed, also Bios Battery as a last resort for weird computer issues that don't make any sense

Ah, even though windows says 2 SODIMM sticks, just opened it and its soldered. This would of change then during the mobo swap.. so not the RAM.

 

Will try the CMOS

Sounds like it's still under warranty, I'd throw it back to them to sort out.

I kinda want to figure it out myself now as its stumped me before i open a warranty request

Any different with/without battery, or different PSU? Laptops are far more tolerant of poor power quality but not necessarily in DC.
