Smoothwall update fails to install

Hi

 

We have two Smoothwall boxes, S10 and S8 configured as a failover pair. The S8 is our standby failover box.

 

We're currently running Leeds 63 and I'm trying to install Leeds 64 (on the S8 as this has to be done first) but it fails to install giving the error....

 

"The update attempted at failed. If this persists, contact your support representative."

 

I've rebooted the box but the problem persists.

 

I've raised a support case but thought I'd post here in case anyone else has had the same issue and knows of a solution.

I'm a bit further back than you are but I can't update from Leeds-53. In my case the solution is to download and reinstall from a USB installer which I need to find the time (and courage) to do.

Log file suggests required files for the update not found / failed to download......

Just had a response back from Smoothwall...

 

We're aware of an ongoing issue when trying to update to Leeds-64. Our development team are looking into this and we'll update you as soon as we can.

Probably worth raising a Smoothwall support ticket, I gather there is a fix they may be able to manually apply.

If you have root access, one of the fixes seems to be that you run:

perl -pi -e 's/deb.debian.org/archive.debian.org/' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/11debian-core.list

 

 

Take a backup first though!

Smoothwall look to be running Debian 8, or Jessie, where the repo has been moved to archive. My appliance was pointed to the archived repo and then Leeds-64 downloaded.

 

I would assume this should have affected all devices but perhaps some have that repo already in the config. Dunno.

 

Open a ticket with them and they can easily fix.

Tried to run the update at 4am and it failed.

we had to get them to remote in and fix it , seemed very quick for them probably same change as @MrBrow post

Debian 8 ( Jessie ) went end of life two years ago. Current release is 11 (bullseye).

 

Was the fix to upgrade the base OS, or did they point apt to a smoothwall hosted mirror of jessie?

If the latter, is the smoothwall OS actually getting patched anymore?

 

edit: just read @MrBrow post and it looks like it upgrades to bullseye

Smoothwal support sorted the issue for me.

They SSH into the smoothwall and run the above Perl script.

Sorted really quick
