Chargers for BYOD devices

Wanted to find out how other schools cope with chargers for BYOD devices, at the moment students aren't allowed to plug in their chargers, there was some talk about PAT testing them but it seems to have faded.

I'd certainly be wary of home devices being brought in. As a boarding school, ours are inspected (latest PAT guidance is class 2 need less/no "testing") These pics are the two I've had to deal with when there's been a bang and a loss of power to a lab.

One of the places I used to work for replaced a load of the plug sockets in the dado rails with sockets with 13a sockets and integrated USB ports in common areas. They could then bring their own lightning/micro USB/USB-C cables and fill their boots. We also didn't restrict them from using the USB ports on computers to charge their devices either.

 

Much more than that, I'm not sure what else you can do. I don't think PAT testing them is practical, that's going to be a huge time sink.

We used to have 'charging lockers' where students could put their laptops for a charge. They didn't get much use and were quite expensive. I'd probably go with @Norphy suggestion if I were to do it again.

Wonder if we could plug in some mains to USB-C adaptors and somehow secure them so they don't get taken.

Bit of epoxy resin would do the job, but you'd never get them off again
