chekmate1984 Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Hi all we have Imac 21.5 inch late 2015 Have installed OS El Capitan at present version 10.11.6. We are trying to get it to 10.15 but every time we do check for updates shows no updates availble. Is El Capitan the max update? We are updating as we need to install adobe cloud which requires version 10.14 minimum Arts dept have gone ahead and purchased software without any discussion with IT if it be compatible and now we stuck with this!
Norphy Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 According to this: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT212551 macOS Monterey should go on an iMac late 2015. You'll see the upgrade to Monterey in the App Store, rather than in System Update. HOWEVER. The lowest spec of these things, which I assume you have in a classroom, have 2.5" 5400 hard drives in them and only 8GB RAM. Monterey on those is going to be a downright miserable experience. Make sure that the teacher is aware of this before you go ahead with this work.
Mrpower Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683 The above link will take you to the apple webpage for downloading MacOS installs. I would recommend opening the link on the target Mac and downloading the OS on to that. Hopefully the dowloaded upgrade will auto open, when it's fully downloaded and you can start the install from there. You can still use a spiny drive but I would recommend a SSD and 8GB of ram is the bare minimum.
tmoon-mint Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Has anyone ever used OpenCore Legacy Patcher on their old Macs before? I suspect it probably breaks the EULA but just curious.
