Office 365 Multiple Accounts

Hi all,

 

Has anyone come across the 'problem' of a user accessing multiple email accounts through M365 on the web ?

 

I gather Microsoft closed this off back in 2018 and preferred emails to be forwarded to one account.

 

I'm aware in M365 you can click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner to connect to another email account but it doesn't always work and also you can use the 'New Incognito Window" in Google Chrome to connect to another account, but this can be cumbersome.

 

Any feedback most welcome.

How do you mean, "accessing multiple accounts"? Do you mean them having multiple accounts each with it's own email address?

 

Best practice in that instance is for them to have one account within your organisation, and any other school-owned addresses send to that account as aliases. This is done through Exchange Admin Centre.

 

Or are you looking for a way to make multiple Microsoft accounts co-exist within one browser? I have this with my admin/non-admin Microsoft accounts, and I have to say the user switching is pretty lousy. If I used it more, I'd keep them in separate browsers, or at least separate Chrome profiles.

If you mean signing in to non-shared mailboxes then yes this was disabled.

 

However you can still use the option to open another mailbox via the Avatar and select a Shared Mailbox you have access to as we do it all the time.

 

If you mean different e-mail accounts in different tenancies, then it's easier to create a new profile in Edge or Chrome for them (with Edge you can then sign-in with that 365 account details. I've got about 8 different profiles setup for all the different tenancies within our MAT)

Firefox containers are even easier for this imho, if it is more ad-hoc.

Assuming these are shared mailboxes, the user can add it directly into their own mailbox as a folder below their own account so you don't have to switch accounts to access it.

- right-click Folders in the left navigation pane, and then choose Add shared folder.

Top tip - I didn't know this one, thanks!

 

We mainly use Outlook client which shows your shared mailboxes automatically, but that's worth knowing if our office ever have to work extensively from the browser.
