iPad still managed... even after removing all management related !

Hi all,

Bit of a puzzle, this one and I'm hoping you can advise me! :)

iPad Air 2 was added by Apple to our DEP a few years ago and is managed by our Apple School Manager. And it shows up on our Apple's Profile Manager. (in-house)

We now want to make this as a stand alone iPad. I have removed it from Apple School Manager and also removed it from Profile Manager.

Then I did a factory reset the iPad, but when going through the steps, it still want me to connect to WiFi and for it to be activated by our org. How do I get rid of this bit? I thought removing it from Apple School Manager and Profile Manager would do this, but it hasn't.

Or did I miss a step?

Thanks,

As long as you've "Released" it from DEP, which is on school manager, then you are correct.

Is it definitely the right serial number, per settings > general > about? We've had one in the past where it was repaired with a different case so the serial no on the back was not the correct serial no.

Log back into School Manager > Devices and search for the serial; it will show the date it was released if it has been.

Thanks, yes, 100% correct serial number and in School Manager, it showed me the date of release which was yesterday. However when I did a factory reset and tried again, it still shows that it's managed... :/

How long has it been since you released it? I've known it take a good few hours to apply MDM changes in ASM, so assume removing it from the DEP could be the same.

Alternatively, if you call Apple and ask to speak to the education team, as long as you can provide proof of purchase they should be able to release this for you at their end. They're usually really helpful.

Did another factory reset today, and it worked this time. So, I guess, like gtg93 said, it does take time for it to be updated.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.
