WinTV10 and VLC

Afternoon All,

 

Can anyone advise.... I'm running WinTV10 with Extend via a dual Hauppage Digital TV Tuner. It all works.

 

I want to stream the output of this software to certain areas of the school. WinTV 10 only allows 2 connections but we need 4. So I'm opening the WinTV stream in VLC to the local machine and then trying to stream from there via rtsp on port 7799

 

It's not working - so there is something wrong with my logic somewhere. I'm missing something.

 

Can anyone advise?

Hi Gareth,

I'm not sure VLC will handle a stream in and out, but i may be wrong... it will definitely open a file and stream that out...

 

Does VLC at least play the output of the WinTV10?

 

As i've found VLC can be a bit 'funny' with transcoding, we went the whole hog and built an IPTV streaming box on Linux using DV Blast. We only use 1 tv tuner so have to change it depending on the source required. Its usually left on the BBC multiplex.

Yes - VLC is playing fine from the WInTV10 app on the local PC and or 2 x remote PCs. The issue has raised it's head because we need 4 x remote PCs showing the Wales game on Friday. We have been advised by PSBA not to use the broadband network. I'm just trying to make it a better experience for everyone.

 

Is there a similar software to DVBlast for Windows? Googling that now.

Has anyone used Cast4Me as an IPTV broadcast solution across their network?

No but i used vmix livelan option to do this on Monday as for some reason multicast is not working across our vlans

It has a 60 day trial as well.

Be aware it will introduce a delay of at least 10 seconds due to how it streams.

 

Another option is to use vlc but use the http option as the destination when creating the stream, then on the other pc you just use vlc with media->open stream enter http://servername:port

Again this will introduce a delay but it is better then iplayer!

Thanks mate - I think we're okay now. We are using Cast4Me as the streaming application. It's working fine and across more than 4 locations without much lag. Running on my machine with 32Gb RAM and an i7. Hopefully be okay on Friday for the Wales game.
