carlin_w Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Hello, I have been upgrading various PCs/Laptops to an SSD, and as such reinstalling Windows 10. I have never had issues before, but I came across an issue when upgrading a HP ProBook 455 G2. When inserting a Win 10 USB install, I get a flashing white line in the top left corner - no matter how I try to install it I get this error. However, if I install Win 7, it works perfectly, and it will then let me upgrade to Win 10. Does anyone have any clue as to what is happening - I have googled and googled but cannot find anything. TIA
LeMarchand Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 How was the USB created? My first thought would be that it's UEFI and the BIOS is set to legacy (or vice versa). 1
DalekSec Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 BIOS update, check UEFI, secure boot etc. 1
hallb15 Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Try a different USB port - I've had laptops that won't boot from USB3 ports but will from USB2. 1
carlin_w Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 Thanks all, checked the BIOS and it needed an update - working fine now
FN-GM Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Thanks all, checked the BIOS and it needed an update - working fine now Good news! It's generally a good idea to keep your BIOS up to date like you would OS and software patches / upgrades.
